DESCRIPTION
Metal silicon is a product obtained by smelting quartz and coke in an electric furnace. The main use of metallic silicon is as an additive to non-ferrous based alloys. The properties of metallic silicon are similar to those of antimony, lead and tin, and have semiconducting properties; they are insoluble in acid at room temperature and are easily soluble in alkali.
