Silicon metal also called crystalline silicon or industrial silicon is mainly used as an additive for non-ferrous alloys. Metallic silicon has a high melting point, good heat resistance, high electrical resistivity, and ultra-high oxidation resistance. Si metal is a product smelted from quartz and coke in an electric furnace.
